Air Canada Touches Newer Skies
Air Canada is all set to fly to
seven new markets in US including Memphis. The airliner will be commencing its
maiden flight to Memphis beginning May 17. Six other US markets where Air Canada
would be stepping in include - Orange County, Calif.;
San Diego; Portland, Ore.; Cincinnati;
Portland, Maine; and Syracuse, New York .The Canadian flag carrier will connect
Memphis International
airport with
Toronto’s Pearson International airport.
Air Canada will utilize 75 seater Jazz CRJ plane to connect the destinations.
The Montreal based airliner confirmed that it would be adding twice daily
nonstop flights between Memphis and
Toronto.
Earlier, Northwest Airlines flew from Memphis to Toronto. However, post merger
with Delta Airlines it now connects
Detroit and Minneapolis to
Toronto’s Pearson International airport.
Memphis’ market is all set to become more competitive with the entry of another
player in the league. The passengers travelling on the very sector can expect
lower airfares going forward. Air Canada is a part of Star Alliance Frequent
flyer program which includes best in class airliners including – Continental
Airlines, US Airways and United
Airlines. Delta Airlines operates a hub in Memphis International airport and
is a part of SkyTeam, frequent flyer program.
Memphis currently has scheduled international flights to Mexico, Jamaica,
Montego Bay, Amsterdam,
Cancun, British Columbia, Vancouver and
Cozumel. This move by Air Canada will further solidify its position in US
markets. It is all set to become the number 1 International airliner which has
most scheduled flights to US.
As per Pamela Griffith Jones, VP at GTAA (Greater Toronto Airports Authority)
the route announcement is indeed “great news” for passengers flying in between
US and Canada. Memphis and Toronto are roughly 800 miles away. A non-stop
service between these two airports will add to Toronto’s fast growth and help
its positioning to be as International commercial arena.
